The story of Cama
Who are we?
Welcome to Cama Lift ApS, Denmark’s largest and oldest manufacturer and distributor of stair lifts for the disabled. Our story is a beautiful tale of care, ingenuity and perseverance that began in the heart of North Jutland.
The beginning of a life-changing journey
The story of Cama Lift began when Uffe Mayntzhusen’s father, a school superintendent at one of the city’s schools, got a new student, a little girl in a wheelchair. The school spanned several floors, and it quickly became clear that the girl would be cut off from parts of the lessons due to lack of access. Uffe, said to his father: “I’ll solve that.”
Uffe’s solution was a clever construction that could take the staircase using a hand winch. The construction was equipped with wheels so that it could drive across the landing and up the next flight of stairs. This invention was the start of something bigger.
A friendship and a vision
In 1975, based on the hand game at school, Uffe Mayntzhusen and his old friend Henrik Carlsen decided to found Cama Lift ApS. Their first product range consisted of a manual and an electric platform lift. Later, these models were replaced by the Handi-lift 3, which came in both a semi- and fully automatic version. It was with the introduction of this model that exports really took off, first to Sweden, Norway and Germany.
Expansion and innovation
Since then, both the product range and the export area have expanded significantly. Today, we offer three main products: Cama-lift ML9, Cama-lift EA9 and Cama-lift EA6. The ML9 is a vertical lift, the EA9 is designed for straight stairs, and the EA6 is for stairs with turns and landings.
Our production is based in Frederikshavn, where we have a dedicated team of 22 employees. Our facilities include a sales department with showroom, a design studio and our production unit. This setup enables us to maintain a high level of quality and innovation, and ensures that our products meet the diverse needs of our customers.
Our stair lifts are now exported to Europe, Asia, Australia and the Middle East, and we are proud to help people all over the world access areas that were previously out of reach.
Our mission
At Cama Lift ApS, our mission is clear:

Cama and sustainability
At Cama Lift, it has always been common sense to minimize the environmental impact of our products. Our founder, Uffe Mayntzhusen, realized early on that quality products with a long lifespan and beautiful design could easily be combined with respect for the environment. From the beginning, we have strived to create solutions that are both durable and adaptable, which has made our products a staple for many years.
Long life, reuse and maintenance
We design our products with a focus on quality and with circular principles in mind. Our lifts have a very high lifespan of 15-20 years or more, especially when serviced and maintained well. We are happy to take back our own lifts if the customer’s needs change. Our ambition is to increase the number of products that, through take-back, refurbishment and upgrading, get a new life. This is the most effective method of reducing the environmental impact of our business.
Innovative and reversible design
A good example of our innovative approach is our EA9. The design, which we call reversible, allows you to change sides without having to use new parts. This makes moving and reinstalling the lift even easier, and avoids the use of new resources. Previously, such changes required new parts, but our continuous work on product improvement has eliminated this need.
Durable and recyclable materials
Our rail systems for both EA9 and EA6 are made of aluminium, a material known for its almost indestructible and recyclable nature. Even when the lift is worn out, the rail system can be reused, and the only thing that needs to be replaced is the lift itself. We ensure that we source aluminium from suppliers who have used a minimum of energy in the processing, and once the products have reached the end of their useful life, the aluminium is almost 100% recyclable. We even hand in aluminium scrap from production for recycling.
Transport and packaging
To reduce our environmental impact, we have changed our transportation methods. Previously, we used wooden crates to transport our lifts, but we have switched to cardboard boxes made from partially recycled cardboard. When we ship spare parts, we use recycled cardboard filled with compostable biofill to protect the parts during transport. This not only reduces our environmental footprint, but also ensures that our products arrive safely and responsibly. Where possible, many of our deliveries are also made without any packaging at all.
Future solutions
At Cama Lift, we pride ourselves on our commitment to the environment and future generations. We are constantly working to improve our practices so that our products are not only of high quality and beautiful design, but also created with consideration for the planet. Our dedication to sustainability is not just a response to a global trend, but a fundamental part of our company’s DNA.
